“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
There is joy and positivity in our world today and one of the best ways to keep this at the forefront of our minds is through the expressions of thankfulness, using a gratitude journal.
Over the past decades, scientific research has identified the physical, social and psychological health benefits that come from giving thanks on a regular basis. Some of the benefits include improvement in holistic health and wellness; sleeping better, less episodes of illness, reduced anxiety and a better body image of self.
Expressions of thankfulness through journaling is about establishing the connection with words, filled with emotion and purpose, that represents the reasons as to why you are thankful
Using a gratitude journal to express thankfulness we must:
- Embody the process by making it personal. This means focusing on the intricate details, what, whom or why the experience in question has made us grateful
- Not get carried away by simply making it a routine activity. The mind must engage in the process. It must be a conscious decision we make on a daily basis to choose to be thankful and to express it in the journal. This way it flows from the heart. Making gratitude a conscious exercise leaves a deeper imprint within us
- Must be open and ready to receive the change the process will bring. One thing gratitude does is that over time, it will change our outlook om life; how we see it and what we choose to focus our energy on. It will also school us on how to be content with what we have and our unique journey. Gratitude will make us always look out for the positives in life
Every day, including today, is a great day to start cultivating the habit of giving thanks. The benefits of living a grateful life far outweighs a life void of thankfulness. Why not start that journey today? Make a conscious decision to express your gratitude to God for all the things He has done, is doing and promises to do for you?
Until next time remember, in all of life situations, do your best to give thanks; always!
