“I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.” Proverbs 4:11
As many across the world are doing their part to tackle the current global pandemic, along the way, valuable lessons are being learnt.
From speaking to numerous people, below are a few of the lessons being impacted during this time.
- Selflessness: This means to be more concerned with the needs and wishes of others than one’s own. We are all learning to think beyond ourselves. The order to stay at home (until further notice) has been no doubt difficult and disorientating. However, we know it is for the greater good of everyone. Our selflessness to stay at home will mean we take control of the virus quicker by reducing infections, and empowering the key workers continue saving lives.
- We need each other: We are all realising, re-learning or affirming that we need each other to survive. You might have seen videos on websites, of people reaching out to each other through balconies, from windows and front doors or through video calls. They are doing all that is possible from a distance to keep hold of that relational connection. We are realising that we are not an island and that we really do need each other to survive.
- The importance of ‘NOW’: For many, life pre-pandemic meant usually rush through each day. From the moment we wake up, everything is done in a haste. We rush to get ready for work, rush to eat breakfast, rush to drop the kids off at school, rush to eat lunch at our desk whilst working, rush back home tired and exhausted. Our pre-pandemic life meant we hardly paused to experience the moments of life. Well, now that we are all on lock-down, we are faced with the reality that life is a accumulation of moments we live, and that the richness of our lives depends on how well we lived and savoured each moment. The result of this awakening is that most have now embarked on a journey of re-discovering the essence of life, starting with the most simplest of things; spending time discovering ourselves, building relationships with family, with friends and establishing or building a relationship with God.
- We need God: The world has brought to its knees. We have realised that we cannot save ourselves because we do not have the answers. I have seen pictures and videos of whole towns and cities on their knees, in the streets, praying to God for mercy and for a solution. I believe God is touching hearts around the world and drawing men unto Himself, it is a beautiful thing to witness.
This is by no means the finite list as I am sure there are more. Many of us will come out of the pandemic by God’s grace, changed forever. I pray it is for the better.
On that note, what lessons are you learning during this time? I would love to hear from you.You can respond in the comment section below.
