2020 has been a strange one for so many people around the world. However, as we have journeyed through there is no doubt that we have learnt a few good lessons along the way, lessons which we know will shape our lives this year and for a long time to come.
Here are some of the lessons we learnt from 2020.
Health is wealth. There has never been a time where we all, collectively realised the benefits of being healthy. There also has never been a time where the whole world was in a position to stop, review and do something about it!. Covid-19 taught us to look after holistic health – mental, spiritual, physical and emotional health. We used apps, we did zoom exercise classes, we learnt to relax and seek restoration in God’s presence.
Cherish your loved ones. 2020 made us realise that family- whatever the make up of it might be for all of us – is important. 2020 gave us a unique opportunity to get off the busy wheel and reflect on how we might have prioritised our relationships and time spent with our loved ones. The lock-downs gave us the opportunity to rekindle, re-establish and rightly prioritise our loved ones. We learnt to tell our loved ones we love them – a lot!
Life is flexible. 2020 taught us that our lives can change any minute and sometimes there isn’t really much we can do about it. We learnt that God indeed is in control and the best we can do is rely and trust in him and ride of the wings of change, anchoring hope in God.
The world realised it needed God! The world has done a good job to keep God out of its business. However, the pandemic saw nations coming to its knees. In city corners, in the middle of town squares, people were on their knees, repenting, praying and pleading for mercy. Covid-19 helped many around the world turn to God. Covid-19 taught us to hold on tight to God.
Be resolute in trusting God. When the pandemic first hit, no one really understood Covid-19, what it was and what to do. Many were left with no option but to face and focus on God, to seek solace, comfort in God. We learnt to put our trust in Him, that He knows what Covid-19 is and He will see the world through this turmoil. We learnt to be resolute in trusting God.
There is tremendous power in Gratitude. In the middle of the pandemic, we embarked on a 100 days gratitude and wellness countdown. We received emails asking us what we have to be grateful for, the world was in chaos. However, we realised that even as we pray, we still needed to be grateful for God’s help and mercy. We were thankful for the wisdom God is giving scientists daily, we are thankful that we have the ability to pause and spend time and make memories with loved ones. We are thankful to pull resources together and help others. Being thankful kept our spirits up, even when sickness crouched at our doors. Gratitude helped to keep our focus on God and pulled us through some tough times last year. We realised that there is awesome power in Gratitude.
Never stop praying. We learnt never to stop praying. God listens and He answers!
We will be using these lessons as part of our tools to navigate our way this year. On that note, what lessons have you learnt from 2020 that you will be holding onto this year?
