“And the [instructions] which you have heard from me along with many witnesses, transmit and entrust [as a deposit] to reliable and faithful men who will be competent and qualified to teach others also” 2 Timothy 2:2
Mentors are defined as experienced wise counsellors. They usually have the knowledge, experience or the know-how that a mentee is aspiring to.
I just started a new job and God has been merciful in that he not only put me under the wings of a good boss, but a fabulous mentor too! One who has taken it as part of her mission to train and grow me in areas where I need it most- willingly and happily and do I say enthusiastically! This is rare and the need to be grateful for this hasn’t passed me by!
Mentors come in all shapes and forms, from old to young (Yes a mentee can be younger than you, for it is about learning a mindset, skill or life experience that is lacking / missing or aspiring to).
Today, I am exceedingly grateful for the mentors God has sent my way! If not for them, the journey to where I am would have been that much tougher and dare I say longer! There is nothing likes someone showing you the ropes you don’t have to “…take the long train to Georgia”).
I am also thankful for the spirit and willingness to learn. God sending mentors is one thing, but having an open and teachable spirit is another! Some of us lose our way because we are not humble enough to learn from others! #Selah!
There are many examples of mentor and mentee relationships in the bible, such as Moses and his Father-in-law Jethro – who mentored him on how to lead the people effectively so that he will not burn himself out. Another example is Eli who mentored Samuel from a young age.
The greatest example of all is Jesus Christ who we aspire to be like and emulate.
So today, Lord we say thank you for the mentors you have placed in our lives – past and present. We are grateful for these forerunners who have been pivotal in our journey through life. We pray that as we are watered, that we in turn play it forward and water others you send our way.
We pray that our gratitude is acceptable in your presence today, in Jesus name. Amen
Over to you beautiful people, what are you thankful to God for today?
