A dialogue with any believer will soon reveal that despite their desires and dreams being fulfilled, ultimately, it is God’s will they want manifested in their lives. 1 Thessalonians 5 tells us that it is the Father’s will for us to live a life of gratitude and appreciation. It says that we should “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (vs16-18 NLT).
One primary reason why we should give thanks to God is simply because of who He is – GOD! Psalm 136:2-3 (NLT) encourages us to “Give thanks to the God of gods. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His faithful love endures forever”. 1 Chronicles 16:8-9 (NLT) further tells us to: “Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds”. Our God is mighty and strong and this is something we should be exceedingly thankful for.
When you sit back and think about your day, week, month, or even year, what do you see? Do you dwell on everything that has gone wrong (or hasn’t gone the way you would like) and how things could have been better? Or do you see how far you have come and give thanks that despite everything you have gone through you have not been consumed?
Psalm 136 tells us to “Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who made the heavens so skilfully. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who made the heavenly lights. His faithful love endures forever. The sun to rule the day, His faithful love endures forever. His faithful love endures forever” (4-9 NLT). Embracing a lifestyle of constant gratitude to God unlocks the fullness of His presence, as well as His blessings into our lives. Such a life is infused with hope, peace and security, knowing that God is always there and will always come through. I have found that the more grateful I am, the more of God’s blessings I tend to experience all around. When I consciously embrace a lifestyle of being thankful, I find that it reminds me of the constant presence of God, thereby banishing all fear. Just like an earthly father, I believe God’s heart swells with pride when we simply say “Thanks Dad” – for the big and small, or seemingly insignificant things He does for us.
Every December, we take time to reflect on our journey through the year through the expressions of Gratitude and Praise. This year is no different, we will be thanking and praising our way through December to finish this year strong. It is safe to say that regardless of the issues, challenges and trials that we might have faced, we are victorious because we are still here – not because we are better than others, but simply because of the mercy, grace and unfailing love of God! For this we are exceedingly thankful!
So, as we embark on our yearly Thanksgiving and Praise countdown, we invite you to join us! We invite you to share our platform and express your gratitude to God. Do you want to thank God for the breakfast you had this morning? Are you grateful that you did not miss the last train home? Or are you grateful that you have a roof over your head? We can and should be be grateful for it all and during our month of Gratitude and praise, nothing is exempt or so insignificant that we cannot or should not be grateful to God for.
How it works:
- Everyday, there will be a post on this blog and on our Instagram account, announcing what we are grateful to God for.
- We will then, at the end of each post invite you to post your gratitude comments on the blog or on Instagram
From previous years, we can truly say that during this season of thanks and praise, God moves – He breaks barriers and restores broken hearts and wraps ups in the essence of His love.
We encourage you to take time to prepare and take time out to reflect on the year gone past, especially one that has seen so many disasters around the world! Prepare your hearts, minds and yes your dance moves, to give God praise and thanks for His protection and love and bringing you through yet another year.
It is our sincere wish that as you partake in expressions of Gratitude and praise that you are Uplifted, Inspired and truly Encouraged in God – His unconditional love and everlasting faithfulness.
