Audacious Boldness – Chasing the Lion!

By admin in : Today in God's Will // Oct 12 2016

chase“And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds. He struck down two heroes of Moab. He also went down and struck down a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen.” 1 Chronicles 11:22

Go hard or Go Home! This is a phrase a very good friend of mine uses when she’s going for a gym workout.  It is to remind herself that if she really wants to see progress against her fitness plan, she needs to mentally align herself and then physically put in her all into the gym workout she is about to embark on.

That phrase reminded me of a conversation I had recently with a friend, we spoke about our passions and the things we really wanted to be spending our time on; which was miles away from what we were currently engaged in.  As we discussed we realised that we simply had to activate the famous NIKE phase and ‘Just Do IT’! We had to really look into ourselves and develop audacious courage and faith and simply go for the dreams which kept tugging at our coat tails, invading our every waking moment whilst causing restlessness.

The encouragement we gave ourselves also brought to mind someone who displayed audacious boldness; his name was Benaiah from 1 Chronicles 11.  He was the son of Jehiada. It was recorded that Benaiah went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion with his bare hands! Now that is something you don’t read every day!

I can only imagine the scene, Benaiah was minding his own business going along his way, and then he spotted a lion or the lion spotted him!  Ah the lion, the king of the jungle. I could imagine the thoughts going through his head at that point in time, “either I try to run away from this lion, get eaten by it or I kill it!  And since I‘m not ready to die yet, killing it is my only option”.  And then he went for the lion!  I’m inclined to believe that Benaiah charging forward must have taken the lion by surprise, for why it would run into a pit?  Well into the Pit it went, followed by Benaiah who killed it and emerged from the pit victorious!

Now back to the conversation with my friend, as our discussion progressed we pretty much realised that we needed to make a decision right there at that very point in time. We had spotted the dream-lion and we needed to chase it and gain victory over it!

Mark Batterson the author of Chase the Lion said “In every dream journey, there comes a moment in time when you have to quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.  You have to go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention” Now that is terrifyingly profound isn’t it? And I whole heartedly agree with that statement!  We should and must chase and live out our dreams! Yes that dream terrifies us so much that the mere thought of it leaves us quivering on the spot!  That dream that we know without God’s help, it cannot be achieved and yes, the same one that without audacious faith and boldness we cannot move forward, one step at a time to begin the journey of victory.

…and so we very much concluded that we have had enough being part of the status quo, and just getting by!  We will go to the shelves or as my friend said “the garden shed” where we have stored our dreams, pick it up, dust it off and with renewed focus, zeal and boldness, live out the life that God is calling us to live!

And now my dear friends, back to you…!  What is your dream? What is that terrifying lion you face? Got it?  Now what are you going to do about it?

Live life, be bold, live your dreams!

Much Love,  Remi
